Rita Kurban is a Research Engineer in the AI & Robotics team at EIT, where she develops foundation models for healthcare, complex systems with a simple goal: helping people live longer, healthier lives. She is fascinated by the challenge of translating state-of-the-art research into tools that make a real difference outside the lab.
Before joining EIT, Rita contributed to the development of an end-to-end multimodal foundation model solution for oncology at kaiko.ai, which was successfully deployed at one of the largest oncology hospitals in Europe. She has also worked with several US- and Europe-based startups in AI for healthcare, on projects ranging from early breast cancer prediction modeling to synthetic patient time-series generation and gastric cancer survival prediction. Her career has been driven by a passion to make deadly diseases a thing of the past.
Rita holds an MSc in Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare from University College London and a BSc from Minerva University, a global program in which she lived in seven countries over four years.
Outside of research, she loves traveling and discovering new cultures, skiing in the winter, learning languages, and playing piano.
